Negative Horizon Mass for Rotating Black Holes

چکیده

Charged rotating black holes of Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory in odd dimensions, D ≥ 5, may possess a negative horizon mass, while their total mass is positive. This surprising feature is related to the existence of counterrotating solutions, where the horizon angular velocity Ω and the angular momentum J possess opposite signs. Black holes may further possess vanishing horizon angular velocity while they have finite angular momentum, or they may possess finite horizon angular velocity while their angular momentum vanishes. In D = 9 even non-static black holes with Ω = J = 0 appear. Charged rotating black holes with vanishing gyromagnetic ratio exist, and black holes need no longer be uniquely characterized by their global charges.

Non-uniqueness, Counterrotation, and Negative Horizon Mass of Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons Black Holes

Stationary black holes in 5-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory possess surprising properties. When considering the Chern-Simons coefficient λ as a parameter, two critical values of λ appear: the supergravity value λSG = 1, and the value λ = 2. At λ = 1, supersymmetric black holes with vanishing horizon angular velocity, but finite angular momentum exist. As λ increases beyond λSG ...

Horizon Mass Theorem Honorable Mention Gravity Research Foundation 2005

A new theorem for black holes is found. It is called the horizon mass theorem. The horizon mass is the mass which cannot escape from the horizon of a black hole. For all black holes: neutral, charged or rotating, the horizon mass is always twice the irreducible mass observed at infinity. Previous theorems on black holes are: 1. the singularity theorem, 2. the area theorem, 3. the uniqueness the...

Uniqueness of near-horizon geometries of rotating extremal AdS4 black holes

We consider stationary extremal black hole solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations with a negative cosmological constant in four dimensions. We determine all non-static axisymmetric near-horizon geometries and all static near-horizon geometries for black holes of this kind. This allows us to deduce that the most general near-horizon geometry of an asymptotically globally AdS4 rotating extre...

7 A New Theorem for Black Holes ∗

A new theorem for black holes is established. The mass of a black hole depends on where the observer is. The horizon mass theorem states that for all black holes: neutral, charged or rotating, the horizon mass is always twice the irreducible mass observed at infinity. The horizon mass theorem is crucial for understanding the occurrence of Hawking radiation. Without black hole radiation, the Sec...

The scalar perturbation of the higher-dimensional rotating black holes

The massless scalar field in the higher-dimensional Kerr black hole (MyersPerry solution with a single rotation axis) has been investigated. It has been shown that the field equation is separable in arbitrary dimensions. The quasinormal modes of the scalar field have been searched in five dimensions using the continued fraction method. The numerical result shows the evidence for the stability o...
